MISHAWAKA — Iris Arlene (Long) McChesney, 83, of Mishawaka passed away at 1:25 p.m. Saturday, May 4, 2013 at the St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, Mishawaka.
Iris was born May 10, 1929 in Plymouth to the late Mahlon G. and Laura Leona (Wright) Long and has been a lifelong resident of this area. She is a 1947 graduate of Plymouth High School.
On July 3, 1948 in Plymouth, she was united in marriage to Elmer Leo McChesney, who preceded her in death Sept. 23, 1986. Iris previously worked at Avanti Motor Company, Cadco Van Conversion Company, Prairie Salvage, and Meck Electronics. She attended the Unity Church of Peace, South Bend, and enjoyed being a seamstress and working with upholstery. But the joy of her life was her family, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Iris was preceded in death by her two sons, Bill McChesney and Robert McChesney; two sisters, Doris and Esther; and six brothers, Modest, Howard, Emory, Earl, Nelson and Glen. She is survived by her daughters, Teresa (Tom) Cook of South Bend, Sherrie (Bob) Klotz of Edwardsburg, Mich., Debra (Michael) Curl of Osceola; by her grandchildren; Tammy (Greg) Cook-Laskowski, Christopher and Benjamin Curl, Teresa McGuire, Robert and Kristine Klotz; nine great-grandchildren; sister, Mary Alice Fish of Argos; and sister-in-law, Dolores Long.
Funeral services for Iris McChesney will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 8, 2013 at Palmer Funeral Home – River Park, 2528 Mishawaka Ave., South Bend. Visitation will be Tuesday, May 7, 2013 from 5 – 8 p.m. and one hour prior to services Wednesday. Burial will take place at Fair Cemetery.
