How to live to be 100

November 11, 2012

By Bob Collier

The answer is simple. There are two steps to living to be 100 years old. The first step is to get to 99. The second step is to be very, very careful for one year. Many people live to be 100 years old and to tell you the truth, I don’t know if they use the 99 and one formula or not.
A pastor was visiting a 99-year-old woman. She was the oldest living person in the community. The pastor told her, “At your age, you should be thinking about the hereafter.” She replied, “Oh, I do think about the hereafter almost every day.” “Whenever I go into any room in this house I ask myself; what am I here after?”
Humor is good medicine and sometimes a good teacher. One day you and I will know everything there is to know about the hereafter. Sadly, it will be too late to do anything with that knowledge. The question for us should not be how long will we live, but how will we live?
In John 4:33 Jesus said “….my food is to do the will of Him who sent me, and to accomplish His work.” And in Matthew 20:28 he said, “I have come not to be served but to serve.” These Scriptures tell us that God has a plan and that we are part of his plan.
During the last year and a half, you and I have listened to the politicians telling us about their plans for America. Last Tuesday we were able to vote for the woman or man with the plan we liked best. No matter who was elected it will take a team effort to make his or her plan a reality. My prayer is for unity. I also pray for the wisest and best to look to God and his plan for the way forward.
United States Marines 1775 – 2012
On a completely separate thought I would like to draw your attention the hundreds of thousands of men and women who have dedicated portions of their lives to service in the U.S. Marine Corps. It started at Tuns Tavern in Philadelphia on this date in 1775 and to this day pride in the Corps remains strong in my mind. Happy Birthday Marines. Semper Fi (always faithful).
