BOURBON — Herbert G. Baker, 86, of Bourbon, passed away unexpectedly Sunday, Feb. 19, 2012 at 9:44 p.m. at home of natural causes.
Herb was born Oct. 16, 1925 at Plymouth to Clarence “Frank” Baker and Elma C. Forbin Baker. Herb was raised by Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Lewis and was a resident of Bourbon all of his life. After he graduated from Bourbon High School in 1943 he was drafted into the United States Navy where he served until 1954. Herb retired in 1991 from Jr. Hahn Company as a salesman to RV Manufacturers and also had worked at Elcar Coach.
Herb was an avid sports fan and loved the game of golf. He was a member of numerous community organizations that include; The Bourbon American Legion Post #424, Bourbon Masonic Lodge, Triton Kiwanis Club, Bourbon Plan Commission, Marshall County Tourism Board, South Bend Scottish Rites and was a past member of the Plymouth Moose Lodge and Warsaw Elks Lodge. He was a member of the Triton School Board from 1981-1986 and attended the Bourbon First United Methodist Church.
Aug. 6, 1948 he joined in marriage to Frances Ellen Morris who passed away, May 12, 1981. He later married Lois L. Eby Aug. 9, 1985 who survives along with his three daughters; Candace (Mrs. Greg) Craft of Bourbon, Kimberly (Mrs. Kris) Berger of Bourbon and Stacy (Mrs. Mike) Scheetz of Plymouth. His family also consisted of four stepchildren; Debbie (Mrs. Lonnie) Witham of Warsaw, Dena (Mrs. Larry) Wattenbarger of Bourbon, Dava (Mrs. Mark) Barton of Bourbon and Dara (Mrs. Greg) Greenawalt of Bourbon. Herb loved his grandchildren; Matthew Craft, Jennifer (Mrs. Joe) Potter, Tyler Berger, Samantha, Jordan and McKenzie Scheetz and his stepgrandchildren; Lisa Scott, Leslie Witham, Braxton Barton, Erica Hagg, Alison, Cory and Morgan McClarnon along with several stepgreat-grandchildren and stepgreat-great-grandchildren.
Herb was preceded in death by a stepgrandchild, Dawn Francis.
The family will receive friends Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Deaton-Clemens Funeral Home, 115 S. Main St., Bourbon.
Funeral services will be Friday at 10:30 a.m. in the Bourbon First United Methodist Church with Revs. Mark Cottrill and Stormy Scherer-Berry officiating.
Burial will follow in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery at Bourbon with Military Graveside services by the Bourbon American Legion.
