TIPPECANOE — Harold Walter, 87, who was a resident of rural Tippecanoe, passed away unexpectedly Thursday, Dec. 27, 2012 at Kosciusko Community Hospital.
Harold was born to William F. and Naomi Sims Walter on April 10, 1925 at Valparaiso. He was joined in marriage to Irma “Sally” DeWitt on Nov. 6, 1949.
Surviving is his wife Sally and their six children; Barbara (Mrs. Terry) Heckaman of Lansing, Mich., Michael and Diane Walter, Richard and Sandy Walter all of Tippecanoe, Ronald and Twila Walter of Monroeville, Becky (Mrs. Bruce) Woodward of Warsaw and Christine (Mrs. Alex) Jack of Plymouth. He was further blessed with 13 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Also surviving is a brother, Elmer Walter of Hannibal, Mo.
Preceding in death were a daughter, Lynnette, three grandchildren; Noah Andrew, Matthew William and Leah Christine, a sister Viola Weimer and a brother Richard Walter.
As was a retired farmer, he enjoyed driving the tractors and watching his son’s farm, cutting firewood and he was a Gideon. He was a faithful member of the Etna Green Church of Christ. He faithfully served in the United States Army as a Sergeant stationed in Japan following World War II.
The family will receive friends Monday, Dec. 31, 2012 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Etna Green Church of Christ, 206 W. Broadway, Etna Green.
Funeral services will follow at 1 p.m. at the Etna Green Church of Christ with Pastor Jordan Ickes and Chaplain Major Alex Jack officiating.
Burial will follow in the Etna Green Cemetery at Etna Green.
The family requests memorial contributions are made to the Etna Green Church of Christ in his memory.
