Happenings for the busy weekend of April 29 - May 1 in Culver

This weekend is a busy one in Culver, between town-wide yard sales and Culver Academies Parents' weekend. Here's a look at some highlights....

1812 Overture live

There will be a special performance of the 1812 Overture Friday at 12:30 p.m. in front of the Academies' Memorial Chapel, making use of the carillon, choir, orchestra, and more. This is a rare opportunity to hear this classical piece performed as it was intended.

Baseball-softball signups

Culver baseball and softball sign-ups will be held Saturday, April 30, 9 to 11 a.m., at the Culver Public Library. Forms may also be returned to the school, addressed Attention: Lisa Moise, or mailed to Lisa Moise, 7598 Pine Trail Court, Culver, IN 46511.

Town wide yard sale

The Town of Culver is sponsoring a spring town-wide yard sale Friday and Saturday, April 29 and 30, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. There is no cost for the event. A map of the locations hosting a yard sale will be disbursed at the town hall, Culver Express, and Osborn’s Mini-Mart.

Tri Kappa art show April 30 wkd.

Culver Tri Kappa has announced its 9th annual Student Art Show April 30 through May 1, 2011 at the Culver Cove ballroom. The show is open to any student from the Culver Community High School, Middle School and Culver Academies. Judged categories include drawing, painting, photography, printmaking, three-dimensional and middle school. Visitors may vote for their favorite artist and exhibit in the People’s Choice category.

The public is invited to visit during the following hours: Saturday, April 30, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.; and Sunday, May 1, from noon to 3 p.m.

Dance Vision this wkd.

Culver Academies will offer its Dancevision performance Saturday, April 30 at 7:30 p.m., and Sunday, May 1 at 2:30 p.m., in the Eppley Auditorium on the Academies campus. The free program includes student-performed ballet and modern dances. The public is welcome to attend.

Culver Postmaster to retire

Cindy Shidler, Culver’s Postmaster for the past several years, will soon retire, with April 29 slated to be her last day. Citizens are welcome to drop by to thank her for her work here and wish her well in her retirement.

Port-A-Pit for St. Mary’s bus ministry

St. Mary of the Lake Catholic Church will be have a Nelson’s Port-a-Pit chicken sale Saturday, April 30 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., or until all sold out. Cost is $6 per half chicken. The sale will take place at the Culver Fire Station Parking lot. All proceeds to benefit the bus ministry.

Friends book sale April 29-30

The Friends of the Culver Public Library will hold their book sale Friday, Aprl 29 and Saturday, April 30, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the library, 107 N. Main Street in downtown Culver. All are welcome, and proceeds support various library endeavors.

Community meal at St. Mary’s Apr. 30

St. Mary of the Lake Catholic Church’s monthly community meal will take place Saturday, April 30 at 6 p.m. The public is invited to this free event.
