WINONA LAKE — Glenna Irene Shuter, 85, of Winona Lake passed away Thursday, Dec. 29, 2011 at 8:13 p.m. at Lutheran Hospital of Fort Wayne.
She was born Dec. 13, 1926 in Plymouth to Glenn Sherer and Dessie (Shadley) Sherer. Sept. 3, 1944 she was married to Virgil Shuter, who preceded her in death in 2005.
Glenna was a 1944 graduate of Aurora High School in Aurora, with a Steno Bookkeeping Civil Service Degree.
She was a self-employed hairdresser for many years retiring in 1988.
She also worked as a teller and trust bookkeeper for 10 years at First National Bank in LaPorte; as well as having worked for two years at Kingsbury Ordnance Plant in Kingsbury.
She moved to Kosciusko County four years ago and has been residing at Grace Village Retirement Community in Winona Lake in the Robin Hood Condominiums. There she was involved with the Grace Village Reading Club, and Poetry Club.
She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Oswego; as well as attending Warsaw Community Bible Church in Warsaw. While Glenna lived in LaPorte she was a member of Grace Baptist Church, where she was a deaconess, librarian, clothes give-away coordinator, and treasurer for many years; and she was a member of the LaPorte Camera & Travel Club.
She is survived by one daughter: Kay (husband Dr. Robert) Courtney (Hillsdale, Okla.); two sons, Kevin (wife Teresa) Shuter (Rolling Prairie); Kip (wife Sandi) Shuter (Warsaw); 10 grandchildren: Matthew (wife Swati) Shuter (Peyton, Colo.), Ashley (husband Jeff) Wright (Rolling Prairie), Philip (wife Jessi) Courtney (Oklahoma City, Okla.), Joshua, Carrie, Abby, Megan and Paul Courtney (all of Hillsdale, Okla.), Andrew and Stephanie Shuter (both of Warsaw); three great-grandchildren: Macy and Maya Wright; and Nathaniel Courtney
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one daughter: Bonnie Shuter; four sisters: Rosella Brown, Martha Mae Dean, Vivian McIntyre, Charlotte Snyder; and three brothers: Franklin, Dale and Terrance Sherer.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2012 from 3 to 8 p.m. EST at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, 225 Argonne Road, Warsaw.
Her funeral service will be conducted Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2012 at 10 a.m. at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home of Warsaw and officiated by Dr. Roderick Smith and Pastor Kirk Barger.
Graveside services will follow at 2 p.m. CST at Swan Lake Memorial Gardens in Michigan City.
