Gas leak causes evacuation

PLYMOUTH — City workers disrupted a service line Wednesday morning, causing a gas leak strong enough for the Plymouth Fire Department to ask area residents to evacuate their homes. A one to two block area from Hogarth St. to Ewing St. and Bayless St. to S. Michigan St. was sectioned off while NIPSCO attempted to secure the situation.
"Sometimes you hit unknown lines and this happens," said Plymouth fire chief Andy Metsker.
"We are taking precautionary steps now, basically making sure nothing happens."
Fire department personnel reported at 11:54 a.m. Wednesday that they had attempted to contact all residents in the sectioned off area. Residents were being evacuated to the fire department.
