OSCEOLA — Fred James Gunther, 52, of Osceola, passed away at 7:40 p.m., Friday, Oct. 5, 2012 in St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, Mishawaka after a battle with lung cancer. Fred was born Dec. 23, 1959, in Plymouth, the son of Fred H. and Dorothy (Kopetski) Gunther. He graduated from LaVille High School.
Oct. 16, 1982, he married Valerie Niegosinski. He is survived by Valerie, along with one son, Nicholas S. Gunther of Osceola, his mother, Dorothy A. Gunther-Heflick of Granger, two sisters, Nancy (Don) Utz of South Bend and Cindy (Tim) McDonald of Houston, Texas and seven nephews, Chris Utz, Nick Utz, Nate Utz, Travis McDonald, Mark McDonald, David Niegosinski, and Cameron Williams.
Fred worked for the South Bend Fire Department for the past 22 years. He was respected by his co-workers and known for his incredibly strong work ethic.
Fred had a love of music and attending concerts. He also had a passion for various sports and avidly followed several of the Chicago based teams.
Fred was a good man who always placed his family before himself. He was loved by many and will truly be missed.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, Oct. 11, 2012 in Chapel Hill Funeral Home, 10776 McKinley Highway, Osceola, with one hour of calling before the service. Cremation will take place.
