Former Knox resident missing in Lake Michigan

June 5, 2014

PORTAGE — The search for Ron Wood Jr., 29, a Chicago, Ill. resident, and former Knox High School student is still underway. Wood went missing in the waters of Lake Michigan at around 6 p.m. Saturday, May 31.

The USCG, along with assistance from the Portgage Fire Department and two boat teams from the Indiana Conservation office, initiated a search, which continued into the night. Wood was not located by the time the search teams ended their search.
Early Sunday morning, search teams continued to search below the surface of the Lake Michigan waters using sonar. At around 3:30 p.m. Sunday, Indiana Conservation officers suspended their sonar search. The search began again on Monday, June 2, but had to be suspended when weather conditions became unstable.
