Byrne, Barnes power CMA
Pierre Byrne ran for 322 yards and two touchdowns on 32 carries, and Culver Military rebounded from a loss at NorthWood last week with a 28-14 home win over Heritage Christian Friday.
Byrne recorded touchdown carries of five and 51 yards, and his 39-yard punt return set up CMA’s first touchdown of the night at the 5:50 mark of the first quarter.
Eagles quarterback Hayes Barnes scored two touchdowns at the game, a 34-yard run that put CMA up 14-0 at the 2:50 stop of the first frame, and a six-yard scamper for the home team’s final score of the night with 2:36 on the game clock.
Culver Military moves to 2-1 with the win and hits the road for Lafayette Central Catholic next week.

LaVille loses NSC opener
LaVille lost its Northern State Conference opener 61-6 to host Jimtown on the road Friday.
LaVille was held to 99 net yards rushing and six passing yards in the loss. The Lancers’ lone score was on a three-yarder by Tyler Thompson in the fourth quarter. Thompson finished with 47 yards rushing on seven carries.
LaVille falls to 0-3 on the season with the loss, while Jimtown improves to 2-1 with a 2-0 NSC start.

Outside hitter Kelsey Gurtner put away nine kills while serving up four aces with four blocks to lead the Lady Lancers. Setter/ middle hitter Katie Berger put down eight kills with seven assists and two blocks, and middle hitter Lynae Hostrawser tallied five kills with three blocks, while Kaitlyn Phillips dished out eight assists.
