Flooding causes multiple roads in county to close

Staff Writer

NORTHWEST INDIANA – The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) is warning motorists that flooding continues to cause problems on several roads across Northwest Indiana. Many of the same closures from the past several days remain, as flood water have yet to recede and rain continues to fall.
Starke County closures:
S.R. 23 - between S.R. 10 and U.S. 30
S.R. 218 - between S.R. 29 and U.S. 35
S.R. 17 - between S.R. 14 and S.R. 16
S.R. 23 - between U.S. 30 and S.R. 10
INDOT crews continue to check ditches, culverts, and pipes to make sure all are clear so highway drainage is flowing as well as possible. But in these extreme conditions, high water may not recede until rain waters subside. INDOT crews will also continue to patrol State roadways day and night to make sure high water signs are posted and roads are closed as needed.
