PLYMOUTH — City firefighters had a busy day Tuesday responding to two house fires before many in the city had finished their second cup of coffee.
Firefighters responded to their first fire of the day around 3:18 a.m. at 420 Miner St. in Plymouth. They were at the site for around two hours in the early morning with no injuries reported.
“The good news is that everyone was able to escape the home unharmed thanks to their fire alarms,” said Plymouth Fire Chief Andy Metsker. “During fire safety month, it’s good to point out that having fire alarms and an escape plan really does work. Fire alarms made the difference in everyone getting to safety in this fire.”
The fire was ruled an “incendiary” fire and is under investigation.
At around 10 a.m., firefighters were again called to a house fire, this time at 1927 Jim Neu Drive. The fire started in a bedroom at the residence.
The fire was ruled incendiary in nature as well.
“There was no logical source for where the fire began,” said Metsker.
Investigation into that fire is also pending.
A firefighter at the scene was transported to St. Joseph Regional Medical Center/Plymouth with injuries suffered at the scene.
“The fireman in question was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries,” said Metsker. “He was treated and released.”
