Fire destroys house; firefighters treated at scene
POLK - Several local agencies battled a blaze Tuesday morning on Redwood Road.
At around 9:30 a.m. Polk Township Fire Department responded to a fire at 2923 Redwood Road that started in a garage and spread to the attached home.
Polk Township arrived on the scene and began to fight the blaze. Conditions at their arrival were heavy black smoke and flames coming from the two story home, according to reports. The fire had started in the garage, according to the emergency dispatch, but had spread to the home by the time crews arrived on the scene.
A total of 10 tankers were on the scene at the height of the fire.
The garage and house were a total loss in the blaze. Polk Township fire were still on the scene late Tuesday afternoon.
According to a report, three firefighters were treated for heat symptoms of heat exhaustion at the scene by EMS from Plymouth, LaPaz and Walkerton. None of the firefighters required transport to the hospital.
At this time the fire is currently under investigation. The Indiana State Fire Marshall’s office will be assisting with the on scene investigation today.
