Festival runs, cider cup challenge, talent contest deadlines approaching

NAPPANEE — Nappanee’s Apple Festival is just around the corner and deadlines for popular events are quickly approaching.
‘Embrace the Pace’ Runs
The Nappanee Apple Festival “Embrace the Pace” Half Marathon and 5K Road Run will be held Saturday, Sept. 15. Race time is 7:30 a.m. with registration beginning at 6 a.m. Runners will depart from Amish Acres located at U.S. 6 and C.R. 3. The race cost is $35 for the half marathon and $18 for the 5K road run, providing entry is received by Aug. 31. The cost is $45 for half marathon and $25 for the 5K for all entries thereafter, including those made on race day. Showers will be available as well as a free shuttle to downtown Nappanee for folks to enjoy the Apple Festival parade and celebration. Race shirts are only guaranteed for those who pre-register.
Talent contest
The Nappanee Apple Festival Talent Contest will be held Sunday, Sept. 16, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the CenturyLink Stage located at U.S. 6 and Clark Street.
Pre-registration is required and deadline is also Friday, Aug. 31. No onsite registrations will be accepted.
Each act will be allowed a total of three minutes for their performance. Three categories will be judged: 12 and under, 13 to 18, and 19 and older.
Apple Cider Cup Challenge
Registration deadline is Sept. 1 for the popular Cider Cup Race which takes place on Saturday morning before the parade.
Businesses, organizations or industries are encouraged to enter a team. Entry fee is $40 with a limit of two teams per participating sponsor. There will be four co-ed runners per team with three running one block and one running two blocks. The winning team is determined by combination of time and amount of remaining cider in the cup. The champions will receive an engraved traveling trophy and $200 donation to a local charity of choice.
