Georgina Orofre, an inmate at the Marshall County Jail, died Monday unexpectedly. An autopsy performed Wednesday indicated that Orofre had died of natural causes. Marshall County coroner Bill Cleavenger attended the autopsy along with an Indiana State Police investigator. Cleavenger said that there was no evidence to indicate that Orofre's death had any connection to her incarceration for approximately two weeks prior to her death. Orofre received immediate medical care by the jail staff prior to the arrival of Plymouth paramedics. Tapes at the jail show staff at Orofre's side almost immediately after she became unresponsive.
"The jail staff acted promptly and according to protocols for medical emergencies involving individuals at the facility," said Cleavenger. "If anything, Orofre was fortunate to have been in a cell directly across from the staff."
Cleavenger reported that no other members of his staff have been involved in the investigation, and he is continuing to work with the ISP.
