Fallen hero will be remembered at 5th Annual McLochlin Memorial Run

June 30, 2011

PLYMOUTH — A lifetime of giving to others will be celebrated for a fifth straight year on July 9 as participants run, walk and remember Jeff McLochlin in his Memorial 5K Run/Walk fundraiser.
The run starts at the Young Amphitheatre in Centennial Park in Plymouth at 8:30 a.m. and all proceeds go to several charities in McLochlin’s name — TAPS (Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors), the Rochester Jr. Football League and veterans’ families.
TAPS is a national organization that brings surviving families of fallen soldiers together to process grief and celebrate life. McLochlin was a standout at football and started his playing days in the Rochester Jr. Football league where his son Connor now carries on his father’s tradition.
McLochlin joined the United States Army in August 1986. He served on active duty with the Army’s elite 75th Ranger Battalion until May 1990. McLochlin served in Operation Just Cause, December 1989, where he parachuted into Panama to conduct combat operations.
After his active duty career he deployed to Bosnia Herzegovina where he was the First Sergeant of C Co 2/152 INF(M).
McLochlin made his final deployment to Afghanistan in October of 2005.
He died July 5, 2006 while conducting combat operations in Afghanistan. His many awards include the Bronze Star, Purple Heart, five Army Commendation Medals, three Army Achievement Medals, Ranger Tab, Combat Infantry Badge with Star, Expert Infantry Badge and Parachute Badge with Bronze Star.
Runners can register beginning at 7:30 a.m. the day of the run with a fee of $25. The fee includes a t-shirt for runners and walkers but pre-registration is requested to guarantee the right size shirt.
Pre-register or get more information by phoning 574-936-3797 emailmadmaddyi@embarqmail.com or visit Facebook and search Jeff McLochlin Memorial 5K Run/Walk.
