Falcons advance with rout of Calumet

October 23, 2010

WALKERTON — It wasn’t the sectional start John Glenn wanted, but the Falcons will take it.
Down a pair of starters and coming off a Northern State Conference championship loss and a two-day break, Glenn got off to a bumpy start Friday.
The Falcons defensive unit surrendered a 55-yard run for a touchdown just three plays from scrimmage to go down 6-0 only 1:27 into the game. Glenn recovered with a pair of first-half scores to go up 14-6 at the half, but those touchdowns came in spite of a pair of fumbles and a turnover on downs after a failed fourth down conversion with just 2 yards to make up in the second frame.
Glenn looked more like its old self after the break, however, and the home team opened Class 3A Sectional 17 play with an eventual 41-6 win over Calumet at home Friday.
“The first half we just played a bad half of football. I’ve got no excuses; our guys came out flat. We were fumbling the ball, we were falling down,” said Glenn head football coach Justin Bogunia. “We talked at halftime, and you can imagine it wasn’t fun in there. We got on them, and they came out in the second half and took over."
