English taught in Bremen

August 20, 2012

BREMEN — When Heart and Hands closed this past June, there was no local agency ready to fill the gap of helping people learn the English language.
However, the opportunity to learn English will continue to be available in Bremen.
English classes will be offered, beginning in September, at Horizon Ministries, which is located across the street from the Bremen Post Office.
The former teachers at Heart and Hands, including Steve Kiefer, Louise Keck, Amy Kiefer, Becky Kauffman, will be joined by Tori Prendergast, Laura LaVine Marmolejos, Kathryn Allen and Jim Morse to provide English lessons for speakers of other languages.
The classes offered will include those for people who speak no English to classes for people who are fine-tuning their English speaking skills. Kiefer, the coordinator for this new venture, says there will be classes for beginners, and then levels one through five.
The six classes will meet at Horizon Mondays and Wednesdays from 5 until 6:30 p.m. Childcare will be provided.
An orientation and registration evening is scheduled for Monday, Aug. 13, beginning at 6 p.m. The registration and orientation event will take place at Horizon, 202 N. Center St.
Classes will begin Wednesday, Sept. 5.
