WALKERTON — Emma M. Van De Putte, 71, Walkerton, passed away Friday, June 21, 2013, at 5:59 a.m. at the Hospice House in South Bend.
Emma was born Nov. 15, 1941, in Florence, Ala., to Robert and Earline (Murphy) Kilburn. Emma and Walter Van De Putte were united in marriage, in South Bend, at the Monson Community United Methodist Chapel, on June 11, 1960. They renewed their wedding vows, on their 25th anniversary, in the same church they were married. Both Walter and Emma are members of their church. Emma loved being with her grandchildren and making her famous, “apple squares” and “mac and cheese”, for them. She enjoyed playing golf and spending time working in her flower garden. Emma worked as a grocery broker in the sales department. They moved to Walkerton, in 1999, from Georgia.
Emma is survived by her husband, Walter Van De Putte; their sons, Don (Maureen) Van De Putte of Temperance, Mich.; Ron (Cindy) Van De Putte of Hamlet, and Ken (Janna) Van De Putte of Culver; her brother, Willdale Kilburn of Walkerton; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
