PLYMOUTH — Elaine Watkins, 79, passed away at 12:55 p.m. Friday, April 19, 2013 at the St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, Mishawaka. Mrs. Watkins was born Sept. 11, 1933 in South Bend to the late Mark L.J. and Ogle (Searfoss) Fritz. She has lived in Plymouth for the past 20 years. On Aug. 11, 1951 in Lakeville, she married Gene R. Watkins who survives.
Along with her husband, Gene, of 61 years, survivors include her three children; Pamela (Jack) Lakins of Plymouth, Marsha (Larry) Balmer of Plymouth, and Darren (Wilma) Watkins of Elkhart; seven grandchildren, Tanya Lakins, Stacy Talaga, Christel Wieczorek, Melissa Ferguson, Adam Balmer, Tyson Watkins, and Jackie Metcalfe; 14 great-grandchildren; one sister, Doris Hughes of South Bend; and one brother Rolland Fritz of Pioneer, Ohio.
A celebration of Mrs. Watkins’ life will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday, April 23, 2013 at the Pine Creek Church of the Brethren, 25075 Stanton Road, North Liberty. Pastor Steve VanHouten will officiate. Friends may visit with the family after the services in the church. Palmer Funeral Home-Lakeville and Southlawn Cremation Services are assisting the Watkins family.
