Dragons top All-NISC lists as Binkley named player of year

November 14, 2012

ARGOS — The Argos boys soccer team was awarded six All-Northern Indiana Soccer Conference picks — including NISC Player of the Year honors — following the Dragons’ conference championship season, the team announced Tuesday.
Sophomore striker Damon Binkley was voted the league’s player of the year, while fellow sophomores Josiah Osborn, Taylor Ogle and Zack Stockman were all named first team All-NISC. Senior Jordan O’Dell and junior Dominic Cataldo were selected for second team honors, meanwhile.
The 19th-ranked Dragons upset No. 6 Bethany Christian 2-1 in the de facto conference title match Oct. 21 at Argos, ending a string of five straight NISC championships by the Bruins. The win clinched Argos a perfect 5-0 league finish and gave the team its first NISC title since 1998.
The Dragons went on to win a repeat Caston Regional title, the program’s first such repeat since 1997-98.
Bethany, which finished second in the conference at 4-1, was awarded three first team picks — most notably Trent Yoder was named the conference goalkeeper of the year — and three second team picks.
Culver Military Academy wound up in third with its 3-2 finish. Luther Jacobs and Manuel Ituarte were both named first team all-conference, and Tanner Grant, Nathaniel Falls-Feldman and Pablo Padilla were all named to the league’s second team.
Trinity finished fourth in the NISC and was awarded two first team and two second team selections. Elkhart Christian placed fifth in the final standings and was given one first team and two second team picks, and Lakeland Christian, which rounded out the conference standings with a winless NISC slate, was given one pick on each of the all-league teams.
