WARSAW — Dr. Walter R. Burns, 83, of Warsaw, formerly of Plymouth, passed away Sunday, Sept. 30, 2012 at 7:56 a.m. at Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne.
He was born Sept. 16, 1929 in Indianapolis, the son of Arthur Burns and Naomi (Andrews) Burns.
He was an honorably discharged veteran of the United States Navy and served during the Korean War.
He married Betty L. Coddington, Jan. 24, 1953 in Indianapolis.
He owned and operated his dental office on Water Street in Plymouth for 40 years retiring in 1999.
He was a high school graduate within the Indianapolis Public School System; 1958 graduate of the Indiana University School of Dentistry; earned his private pilot’s license and loved flying his private plane, golfing, riding his motorcycles (both dirt and road bikes); was an avid Chicago Bears and Indiana University basketball fan; loving father and grandfather-he enjoyed keeping up with the activities of his grandchildren; was a devoted husband who lovingly cared for his wife during her last years.
He is survived by a daughter: Sharon Walters, Warsaw; son: Steven (Charlene) Burns, Granger; four grandchildren: Michelle (John) Miller, Lafayette, Christina (Nate) Hubley, Fort Wayne, Valerie Burns, Granger, Austin Burns, Granger; three great-grandchildren: Kelsey, Kaitlynn and Nicholas; and sister: Marsha Walker, Indianapolis.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty L. Burns, Dec. 4, 2009.
A private family service will be held, officiated by Pastor Dennis Bollenbacher, chaplain, Mason Health Care and Rehabilitation, Warsaw. Burial will be in Oakhill Cemetery, Plymouth.
Memorials may be made in remembrance of his wife to: Alzheimer’s Association, 922 E. Colfax Ave., South Bend, IN 46617.
