FAIRFAX, Va. — Barbara lost her battle with cancer July 5, 2012 in Fairfax, Va.
She was born Sept. 27, 1951 to Glen and Bonnie Martin in Plymouth. She attended Tyner School and graduated from LaVille High School as co-valedictorian in 1969, received her bachelor’s degree from Indiana University, and her master’s and doctorate in social psychology from the University of Illinois. She taught at the University of Northern Colorado, Greeley, Colo. and at the University of Wisconsin in Milwaukee. She married Dr. David Kravitz in Lexington, Ky. June 12, 1984. The couple then lived, loved and taught in Germany; Lexington, Ky.; Bowling Green, Ohio; North Miami Beach, Fla.; Houston, Texas; and Fairfax, Va. Barbara retired from teaching to pursue a career as a writer. She was an avid reader from an early age and this love of books blossomed into a great collection of works. She spent hours in her flower gardens, watching birds and identifying flora and fauna whereever she traveled. Her latest pursuit was fashioning fine jewelry.
She is survived by her loving husband Dr. David Kravitz, Fairfax, Va.; her parents. Glen and Bonnie Martin, Plymouth; one sister, Amy Martin-Crowel, Toledo, Ohio; four brothers, Samuel Martin, Dennis and Phyllis Martin, Eric Martin of Plymouth, and Daniel and Darlene Martin of Nashville.
She was proceeded in death by one sister, Debra Louise Martin.
Memorial services will be held in Fairfax, Va. and at the Church of God in Bremen July 14, 2012 at 3 p.m. Friends and family are invited to attend.
