PLYMOUTH — Doris Downey, 87, a former Plymouth resident, died at 8:45 a.m. Monday, Dec. 27, 2010, at Westford House in Westford, Mass.
Doris was born Feb. 22, 1923 in Marshalltown, Iowa, the daughter of Roy and Ruby Dann Martin. She graduated from high school in Indianola, Iowa.
March 21, 1942, in Corpus Christi, Texas, Doris became the bride of Doyle Downey. Doyle preceded her in death in 1984.
A homemaker, she had also worked as a cashier at Dave and Ray’s Supermarket for several years. For many years, she and Doyle wintered in Florida. Doris enjoyed crafts, quilting and making jewelry.
A music lover with a beautiful voice, she sang in the choir at Pretty Lake Trinity United Methodist Church and enjoyed playing the piano at home.
She is survived by two daughters, Linda (Dennis) Alitz of Chelmsford, Mass. and Peggy (James) Metz of Plymouth; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Doris was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Doyle; and a son, William E. “Bill” Downey.
Friends are invited to share memories with Doris’ family Thursday, Jan. 6, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan St., Plymouth.
Funeral services, officiated by Pastor Jim Irwin of the Pretty Lake Trinity United Methodist Church, will be held in the funeral home at 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 7.
Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Walkerton.
