PLYMOUTH — Donald Keith Rettinger, 86, of 625 Oakhill Ave., Plymouth, formerly of Bourbon, passed away Monday, Dec. 5, 2011 at 11:28 a.m. in Pilgrim Manor Nursing Home.
Donald was born the son of Joe Herman Rettinger and Cecile Gottschalk Rettinger May 13, 1925 at Bourbon. He was a lifelong resident of the Bourbon area and spent several winters in the Haines City, Fla. area. Don was a graduate of Bourbon High School class of 1943.
He married Vonna Mae Summers, Dec. 31, 1946, she survives along with their children Mary Eloise and husband Byron Smith and Hugh and wife Karin Rettinger all of Bourbon. Also surviving are his six grandchildren; Leon, Mark and Anna Smith and Summer and husband Scott Steenburg, Weston and wife Gretchen Rettinger and William Rettinger, two great-grandchildren Sophia Steenburg and Isabelle Rettinger and a brother Herman and wife Evelyn Rettinger of Bourbon.
He was a retired farmer who had farmed for many years with his brother and father. Don was also very active serving four terms on the Triton School Board, serving on the District Board of Directors of Northern Indiana Church of the Brethren, a past Trustee of Timbercrest at North Manchester, served on the Board of Director of the Federal Land Bank, a member of Farm Bureau and Future Farmers of America and 4-H.
The family will receive friends Saturday, Dec. 10, 2011 from 1 to 3 p.m. in Mt. Pleasant Church of the Brethren 5699 10th Road, Bourbon, IN 46504.
Funeral services will follow at 3 p.m. in Mt. Pleasant Church of the Brethren with Pastors Guy Biddle and Doug Archer officiating.
Burial will follow in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Bourbon.
The family requests memorial contributions are made to Heifer Project International.
