PLYMOUTH — Donald E. Longanecker, 84, of Plymouth, died Tuesday, Nov. 29, 2011 at his home.
He was born April 10, 1927 in Sterling, Ill., the son of Howard Longanecker and Elsie (Dettman) Longanecker.
Donald had worked for LaPorte Transit, retiring in 1989. He was a member of American Legion Post 83, and a veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard during WWII. Donald enjoyed coin collecting and model cars.
July 24, 1948, in Chicago, Ill., he married Madeleine (Legoff) Longanecker who survives.
He is also survived by his three sons — Ronald (Pat) Longanecker of Palos Heights, Ill., Bruce (Pat) Longanecker of Morton Grove, Ill., Gordon (Debbie) Longanecker of Plymouth; daughter — Susan (Carl) Niedoborski of Orland Park, Ill.; 14 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren, and one brother — Kenneth Longanecker of Jefferson City, Mo.
Donald was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Mildred Koning, one grandson, two great-grandchildren.
Arrangements are being handled by Haverstock Funeral Home, 602 Maple Ave., LaPorte where the family will receive friends Monday, Dec. 5, 2011, from 11 a.m., until time of services. Services will be held at Haverstock Funeral Home, Inc., Monday Dec. 5, 2011 at 1 p.m. with Rev. Tom Padberg officiating. Cremation will take place.
