FINDLAY, Ohio — Donald C. Hardesty, 88, of Findlay, Ohio passed away at 3:40 a.m. Saturday, July 20, 2013 at the Bridge Hospice Care Center, Findlay, Ohio. He was born Sept. 4, 1924, to the late Raymond Earl and Anna (Luken) Hardesty in Hamlet. He married Elizabeth B. Fritz on Sept. 5, 1953 in Mishawaka, and she survives.
Donald is also survived by his children: Joan E. Hardesty of Fairbanks, Alaska, Charles A. (Julie) Hardesty of Findlay, Ohio and Sally Ann Hardesty of Pensacola, Fla.; grandchildren: Kasey (Justin) Freisner and Mallorie Hardesty both of Columbus, Ohio, Margaret Hardesty of Findlay, Ohio and Kevin Kassel of Fairbanks, Alaska; one great-granddaughter, Charlotte Anne Freisner; and brother, James R. Hardesty of Hamlet.
Donald was a 1942 graduate of Oregon-Davis High School, Hamlet and a 1948 graduate of Purdue University, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in Ag. Econ. From 1948-1967 Don worked in the Management and Appraisal Division of Doane Agriculture Service, working out of the St. Louis, Mo., Champaign, Ill., and Bowling Green, Ohio offices. In 1968, Don opened his own appraisal service, Hardesty Appraisal Service in Findlay, Ohio. In 2000 Don retired and closed the office.
Don served as an appraisal witness in Common Pleas Court in Allen, Defiance, Hancock, Hardin, Henry, Logan, Lucas, Marion, Ottawa, Putnam, Sandusky, and Trumbull counties. He also served as an appraisal witness in the United States Bankruptcy Court, Northern District of Ohio, Western Division, Toledo, Ohio.
He was a member of the American Society of Farm Managers and Rural Appraisers (ASFMRA) since 1949, where he served as president of the Ohio Chapter of the ASFMRA in 1970 and the national president of the ASFMRA in 1973. His designations that he held during his active appraisal career were AFM, ARA, CRP and State of Ohio Certified General Real Estate Appraiser. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Findlay, where he served as an Elder and a Deacon and served as Secretary/Treasurer of the Character Builders Class from 1978-2008. He was also a former member of the Findlay Elks, current member of Rotary in Findlay, and a member of the Hancock County Naturalists, where he was a past treasurer.
Visitation will be from 2-6 p.m. Friday, Aug. 2, 2013 at KIRKPATRICK-BEHNKE FUNERAL HOME, Findlay, Ohio. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 3, 2013 at the First Presbyterian Church, Findlay, Ohio. Pastor Patrick Cherry will officiate and burial will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery, Findlay, Ohio. Memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church and/or the Character Builders Class at the church.
