Hoosier Boys and Girls State representatives from Triton High School are standing, from left, delegates D.J. Riffle and Trenton Cooper; Hoosier Girls State Delegate, Paige Ullery; and Boys State Alternate, Drew Mosson. Representatives must rank in the upper half of the junior class and are selected by the Triton faculty from a pool of students interested in participating. The Bourbon Post 424 sponsors the Boys State delegates while the American Legion Auxiliary of the Bourbon Post sponsors the Girls State delegates.
Hoosier Boys State and Hoosier Girls State are separate week-long conferences that teach the theory, organization, and practical application of the process of our democratic form of government. These programs provide junior boys and girls serving as delegates across the state of Indiana a first hand insight into the rights and responsibilities of a citizen living in a democracy.
The American Legion organizes both programs with Indiana State University in Terre Haute sponsoring the Girls State activities and Trine University in Angola hosting Boys State.
