LAKEVILLE — Delbert C. Balmer, 87, of Lakeville passed away at 3:48 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 2, 2012 at Memorial Hospital, South Bend. Delbert retired in 1997 as a carpenter with Van Overberghe and Casteel Construction Company’s after 30 years of service. He was born June 16, 1925 in Wyatt to the late Albert and Elsie (Perry) Balmer and has lived in this area all of his life. April 16, 1967 in Bremen he married Thomasina Carroll who survives.
Also surviving are three daughters, Nancy Sapp of Dayton, Ohio, Pamela (David) Wiegand of Lakeville, Peggy Wagner of Hawthorn Woods, Ill., six grandchildren, Bill (April) Sapp and David (Sarah) Sapp both of Ohio, Mark (Lynn) Sapp of California, Charles Wiegand of LaGrange Park, Ill., Aleigha (Michael) Baxter of Mishawaka, and Kelly Wagner of Chicago, Ill., six great-grandchildren, a sister, Shirley Lakins of Bremen and two brothers, William Balmer of Rochester and Eldon (Florence) Balmer of Texas.
Two infant sons, two sisters, Esther Young and Leona Nickerson and three brothers, Harold, Roger and Perry all preceded in death.
Gravesite and military honors will be held at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 6, at the Southlawn Cemetery, South Bend. A gathering for family and friends Thursday will follow from 12 p.m. until the time of the memorial service at 1 p.m. at the Lakeville United Methodist Church, 610 N. Michigan St., Lakeville.
Delbert was a member of Lakeville United Methodist Church. He was a charter member of VFW Bremen and a member of the Carpenter Union Local 413. Delbert was also a Past Commander of the American Legion in Lakeville.
