ARGOS — Dale Vernon Thompson, 92, of Argos died Feb. 21, 2013 at 9:29 a.m. at Kosciusko Community Hospital, Warsaw following a sudden illness.
He was born Oct. 25, 1920 near Argos in Green Township to Alva and Hazel (Kindig) Thompson. He lived all of his life in the Argos community.
On June 22, 1947 at the Walnut Church of the Brethren, Argos, he married Lois Pfeiffer; she preceded him Dec. 15, 1993.
He was a heavy equipment operator and a member of Local #150.
Dale belonged to The American Legion and VFW. He served his country in the United States Army Air Corps during WWII being stationed at Thurleigh Field in England with the 423rd Bomb Squad, Heavy Bomber Operations from Sept. 15, 1942 to Nov. 15, 1945.
He was a graduate of Argos High School class of 1939.
He is survived by his children – Robert Kirk Thompson and wife Pamela of Plymouth; Dan Alan Thompson and wife Kathy of Plymouth; Kaye Louise Wallen and husband Mike of Warsaw; John Charles Thompson and wife Amy of Terre Haute; 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; and sisters – Erma Ellinger of Bourbon and Bernice Reese and husband Wayne of Warsaw.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, son – Gregory Lee Thompson, grandson – Matthew Thompson, brothers – Charles Thompson and Eldon Thompson, and sisters – Bertha Thacker and Eva Lawmaster.
Friends may visit with the family Sunday, Feb., 24, 2013 from 2 – 6 p.m. at the Earl-Grossman Funeral Home, 208 N. Michigan St., Argos.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Feb. 25, 2013 at the Walnut Church of the Brethren, 19056 Gumwood Road, Argos, officiated by Rev. Robert E. Rice Jr. of the Walnut Church of the Brethren.
Burial will be at Maple Grove Cemetery with the United States Air Force and Argos American Legion conducting graveside services.
Memorial contributions may be made to Walnut Church of the Brethren, 19056 Gumwood Road, Argos, IN 46501 and Hope Hospice of Fulton County, 420 Main St., Rochester, IN 46975.
