County approves sale of tax certificate properties to city

March 6, 2014

STARKE — The Starke County Commission approved the sale of five parcels of land in the Parkview Subdivision to the city. The properties, which include two structures, were scheduled for the second tax sale on Feb. 27. State law allows the transfer of ownership between the county and city at a negotiated price, which in this case is the minimum bid of $35 per parcel.
The county benefits by stopping the accumulation of unpaid property taxes. Following due process for tax lien sales, when finalized, the city may eliminate possible building code violations and demolish the two existing structures.
