Coroner rules on Sunday boating fatality

August 9, 2012

PLYMOUTH — Marshall County Coroner Bill Cleavenger said Thursday that alcohol was not a factor in Sunday's boating accident that killed Roger R. Martin, 61, of Chicago.
The incident, which occurred in the early evening on Lake Latonka in Plymouth, is still under investigation. Martin fell from a ski boat as it was making a sharp turn and was run over by the boat. The boat was driven by a family member.
Cleavenger emphasized that alcohol consumption was not a factor in Martin's death, in the case of both the victim and the driver of the boat. Cleavenger consulted Indiana conservation officers and the Marshall County Prosecutor's Office before releasing a statement Thursday.
