Competitive Bremen girls drop opener

November 17, 2010

ELKHART — The Bremen girls swimming team had its share of solid performances, but opened the season with a 108-77 loss to host Concord Tuesday night.
"The beginning of the season is really hard, especially against a tough and talented team like Concord," first-year Bremen coach Seth Donnelly said. "But the ladies did really well. They're swimming sore right now, and it's a testament to how hard they work."
Bremen got its first event win of the season in the 50-yard freestyle, as sisters Katie and Sara Lafferty finished 1-2 in 24.44 seconds and 26.11 respectively. Katie later took first in the 100 free (54.54) and Sara did the same in the 100 backstroke (1:08.23), finishing ahead of second-place teammate Paige Fox (1:10.14).
"They swim year-round and they're very fast," Donnelly said. "They have a lot of natural talent, and I put them in to see how they'd swim against each other. We'll be experimenting with them to see how they do in other events as well."
