Church of the Brethren using ancient bible study techniques today

March 13, 2014

NAPPANEE — Nappanee Church of the Brethren has begun their spiritual journey using a much simpler process for this year's Lenten season.
Vital Ministry Journey is a bible study program created by the Church of the Brethren's Congregational Life Ministries team. It is geared at encouraging the reader to make their own assumptions about what the Bible says, rather than simply explaining the purpose behind passages to them.
"This is more of a spirit-guided thing," Byrl Shaver, pastor at the Nappanee Church of the Brethren, explained. "What we're trying to do is get people to think for themselves. Instead of having one person say 'This is what God says,' you're reflecting in on it."
