CHESTERTON — Charles “David” Kara, 64, of Chesterton passed away Saturday, April 21, 2012 at the VNA Hospice Center Valparaiso.
He was born Jan. 23, 1948 in Valparaiso to Charles Joseph and June Fern Williams Kara both of whom preceded him in death. Aug. 27, 1977 in Chesterton he married Dawn “Suzi” Ward Kara who survives in Chesterton. He is also survived by his children, Mark (Linda) Kara of Hobart, Kevin (Vickie) Kara of Portage, Eric Kara of Chesterton, Allison Kara of Plymouth and Megan Kara of Chesterton; his grandchildren, Evan and Kyleigh Kara; his siblings, Carol Bragg of North Carolina, Judy (Jim) Chaplin of Chesterton, Thomas Kara of Missouri and Paul (Libby) Kara of Michigan. David is also survived by his sisters- and brothers-in law, Carolyn (Jerry) Staff of Chesterton, Michael (Susan) Ward of Chesterton, Patricia Warren of Michigan City, Mary (Dan) Haley of Chesterton, Edward (Marge) Ward of New Jersey and Gerald (Brenda) Ward of Chesterton and many nieces and nephews. David was preceded in death by his sister, Patricia Kara.
He was retired from Bethlehem Steel as a general foreman with 34 years’ service. David belonged to the Moose Lodge 1623 and the St. Joe’s Young Men’s Club. He was an avid bowler, golfer and coached girls’ softball. Woodworking was one of his favorite hobbies along with old cars: painting, fixing and working on them.
Memorial service will be Thursday, April 26, 2012 at 6 p.m. CDT at White-Love Funeral Home 525 S. 2nd St., Chesterton. The family will receive friends Thursday from 5 p.m. until time of service at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to the VNA Hospice in David’s name.
