Challenge is being met at Ace
PLYMOUTH — Ace Fitness in Plymouth has stepped up to contribute to the United Way annual campaign.
Owner Cindy Danielson said Ace has been holding weight loss contests for members for several years.
“This year, I decided to use part of the $25 fee from participants for a United Way donation,” Danielson said. Participants pay $25 and $15 of the fee is put into a pot for the biggest loser — and $10 for United Way. So far, Ace has accumulated $250 for the United Way.
The amount of weight loss is measured in percentages, according to Danielson.
Each week, new winners are announced. Marsha Duncan and Stephanie Metsker were already named weekly winners. This week, Liz Truitt, Carlos Bastardo and Matthew Young were recognized for their achievements.
Danielson said the 27 participants have lost a total of 88.5 pounds so far.
Young said his wife encouraged him to begin working out and he knew he needed a new lifestyle. He said he is proud of his new “Biggest Loser” T-shirt he won for his weight loss. Young now makes it a priority to work out at Ace Fitness every day. His perseverance has resulted in a 35-pound weight loss to date.
United Way Drive Chair Chad Dreibelbis and Division Chair Vickie Talcott said they were thrilled with the new idea for gathering donations.
“This is very creative,” Talcott said.
This year’s United Way goal is $475,000. Jayne Gibson of the United Way, said almost 72 percent of the goal has been raised already and there are still campaigns going on at businesses and industrial sites.
Danielson started in the fitness profession when she was only 19 years old. She first started right out of high school in the old Holm Clinic building.
In 1986, she moved to the former Club Fitness in the downtown area. While she was waiting for renovations to the building she now occupies on Jefferson Street, she had a small spa at the former Plymouth Tennis Complex. Ace Fitness has been at the present location for six years.
Danielson said she never gets tired of helping others with their fitness goals. “I train 8 to 12 clients every day now and teach at least one class," she said.
