CGA beats Plymouth for 3rd straight sectional title

October 18, 2010

ARGOS — Led by tourney MVP Kylee Shipley, the Lady Eagles whitewashed Plymouth 3-0 to claim their third straight Argos Girls Soccer Sectional championship Saturday at Eugene Snyder Field.
"It's always good, but I think with this third one we've kind of established a standard now that's expected," said Culver Girls Academy head soccer coach Nathaniel King. "Now we can focus on a bigger challenge at regional. It's a big confidence boost going into regional."
Shipley backed up a two-goal performance in the semifinals Thursday with another pair of scores and an assist to power CGA's offense Saturday.
Her header off an Abigale Baker cross put the Eagles on the board just four minutes into the contest, and her solo shot in the 43rd minute gave Culver some insurance. The senior Culver native assisted with a short back pass to freshman Amber Cowell for a goal in the 67th minute to bring the score to its final.
"It's going to be hard when she moves on, when she leaves," said King of Shipley. "She is a big-game performer. She steps up in the big games, but I think it's not just Kylee. Her teammates make her the player she is and vice versa so this is a good team victory and hopefully the leadership we have with this team can be a good example to the leaders we have next season."
