CGA’s Cvitkovic singled out for 2 more postseason honors
CULVER — Culver Girls Academy’s Anrijana Cvitkovic has received two more honors following the conclusion of her senior basketball season with the Lady Eagles.
Cvitkovic, an athletic 6-2 import from Kraljevica, Croatia, has been named to the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association/ Subway Senior All-State first team and was invited to participate in the Hoosier Basketball Magazine Top 60 Workout , the two organizations announced Wednesday.
A University of Dayton recruit ranked the 13th best forward prospect in the nation by ESPN Hoopgurlz, Cvitkovic was already named to the Hoosier Basketball Magazine Top 100 earlier this year. She surpassed the 1,000-point mark last season with 324 points, bringing her career total to 1,240.
As a sophomore in 2010-11, Cvitkovic helped CGA break a 14-year sectional championship drought with a team-leading 323 points but was unable to get the Eagles back to the sectional title game as they were eliminated by Mishawaka Marian in the semifinals of the tournament each of the past two seasons, including the team’s heartbreaking 48-47 loss Feb. 8.
“What do you say about Andrijana? Clearly an Indiana All-Star candidate if not an Indiana All-Star player, and it would be a travesty if she’s not,” said CGA head coach Gary Christlieb following his team’s sectional eliminator. “She’s going to go down as probably at this point one of the two best players in the CGA basketball program along with (Indiana Miss Basketball 1990) Patricia Babcock. You don’t get kids that come along like that very often, and when you do it’s just a pleasure to coach kids with that kind of ability.”
Along with Cvitkovic, Plymouth’s Amber Redinger, NorthWood’s Savannah Bley and North Judson’s Jordann Frasure were given Honorable Mention on the IBCA’s Senior List.
Several local players also received 2013 Underclass All-State nominations led by NorthWood junior Morgan Olson, who was the lone area player named to the first team. Plymouth sophomore Hunter Stevens was joined by a trio of Oregon-Davis juniors as Ashley Campbell, Jesse Avarone and Alicia McIntosh were each selected for All-State Honorable Mention.
The 32nd annual Top 60 Senior Workout will be hosted by Hoosier Basketball Magazine in conjunction with the IHSAA and the IBCA on Sunday on the campus of Marian University in Indianapolis.
Twenty-eight of the Top 60 girls, primarily from northern and southern Indiana, will participate in the first session from 1 to 3 p.m. EST. The remaining 32 girls, primarily from central Indiana, will compete during the second session scheduled for 3:30-5:30 p.m. Both sessions are open to the public for admission fee of $7.
