GLASGOW, Ky. — Brian James Gilbert, 42, passed away at Vanderbilt University Hospital in Nashville, Tenn., Sept. 22 after a brief illness.
A long time resident of Plymouth, Brian had moved to Glasgow, Ky., to pursue his career as a jazz and big band trombonist.
Well known in music circles for his extremely high range and bold sound, Brian played in the Marshall County Church Orchestra and the Barren County Community Band (Ky.), as well as in numerous other ensembles.
After graduating from PHS in 1988, having played in the PHS Band and Advanced Jazz Ensemble, Brian moved on to become the principal trombonist at the University of Indianapolis.
Brian is preceded in death by his father, Bernard James Gilbert, and his mother, Gloria Jean Gilbert, both of Plymouth.
Memorial services will be announced in the near future.
