BPL hosts book signing

BOURBON — The Bourbon Public  Library we will host another author signing and book talk Tuesday, Nov. 9. Author Larita Killian will visit Bourbon to talk about her book “Zimbabwe Bound: A Woman’s Journey Through Africa.” The book tells the true-life story of Anna Mackenzie who was born in Bourbon.
Killian stumbled upon the story when she made the acquaintance of Almeda Fribley at her father’s funeral, which led to a discussion of Anna and the many letters that she had sent to the Fribley family from Africa. The book discusses Anna as an orphan train child born in Bourbon in the late 1890s and how she eventually lived with the Fribley family when her mother moved back East. Anna went on to work in Chicago as a nurse during the “roaring twenties” where she started a long-distance correspondence with a South African rancher.  After seven years of writing letters, they were married and Anna moved to South Africa. They eventually settled in what is now Zimbabwe.
The Book Club has chosen this book as their November read.  There is one copy available at the library, but it can be purchased from the University of Indianapolis Press. Contact Heather Barron at 574-342-5655 at the Bourbon Public Library for more information.
If there is enough interest, the library will place a group order to receive a discount for those who would like the book. The cost would be $17.96 each ($15.96 plus $2 for shipping and handling). Otherwise the books will be for sale at the author signing/talk Nov. 9 for $19.95 each.
