Cuts, contracts spark teacher rally E-mail

NAPPANEE — Discontent over teacher contract negotiations led Wa-Nee teachers to rally last Monday afternoon, May 5.
The protest began at the NorthWood High School parking lot, with roughly 150 to 200 people showing up to march. Carrying signs bearing messages like “say it ain’t so, Joe” and “P.E., let it be,” parents, students, community members and employees of other area school districts joined the teachers and marched to the Wa-Nee administration building, where contract mediation was taking place.

Elder Haus to offer seniors ‘REAL’ service E-mail

NAPPANEE — In less than a week, the Elder Haus senior center in Nappanee will be ready to serve up some ‘Real’ service for local seniors.
Beginning May 12, REAL Services will begin serving lunch at the center, located at 451 N. Main St. in Nappanee.
Elder Haus director Connie Fink invites all Nappanee seniors to take advantage of the low-cost meals and the social opportunities presented. Fink feels the Elder Haus facility is an ideal location for REAL Services to begin serving seniors in Nappanee again.

Residents honored for historic preservation E-mail

NAPPANEE — Citizens who embrace the pace of change while working to preserve the past is a trait that makes Nappanee unique among many towns. Last Thursday evening, May 1 the Nappanee Historic Preservation Commission honored six such individuals at their annual awards night.
The ceremony took place at the Nappanee Center with Historic Preservation Commission chairperson Chuck Grimm serving as master of ceremonies.
