Biggest Loser contestant visits Plymouth for health fair
PLYMOUTH — Marci Crozier, Biggest Loser season 11 contestant, will be the keynote speaker at the LifePlex community health fair Sept. 21. She will be speaking on women’s health and sharing some of her experiences from the show beginning at 6 p.m.
Crozier is only one of the many speakers scheduled for the day, which begins at 7 a.m. and goes until 7 p.m. The free community event is designed to get residents interested in pursuing a more fit lifestyle.
“Our thought process has been to encourage employers to get their staff here — that’s why we have the hours of 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.,” said Fitness Forum marketing director Sarah Flynn. “We wanted to help employers encourage wellness.”
More than 30 booths will be set up on the medical side of the LifePlex building, where different groups willbe offering free health screenings. Attendees will have the opportunity to get their blood pressure, blood sugar, blood oxygen levels, grip strength, and ear canals checked. Flu shots will be given by Walgreens.
Ancilla College nurses will be working with the Plymouth Police and the Indiana State Police to do car seat checks.
Serenity Spa staff members will be giving complimentary paraffin wax hand dips.
One of the special speakers will be Dr. Kevin Reyburn of Woodlawn Hospital in Rochester. Dr. Reyburn will be speaking at 4 p.m. on concussion research for athletes. Flynn said that area school coaches and athletic directors have been invited to listen to his talk.
“We just feel it’s very important,” said Flynn.
Throughout the day attendees of the event will be treated to music and dancing by local groups. The Plymouth Youth Orchestra will perform on the “catwalk” above the fair and the LifePlex Dance Academy will also perform outside the main entrance. Around 5 p.m. Plymouth Sky Sports will be jumping onto the grounds of the LifePlex to demonstrate another way to incorporate an active lifestyle.
Other events for the day include a free Silver Sneakers group exercise class at 10 a.m., a ping-pong tournament, and a cooking demonstration by the Kitchen Store of Walkerton staff.
Grand prize drawings will be held for a hot air ballon ride and a family membership to Fitness Forum. For more information about the event, call 574-936-2333.
