Bi-County kicks off tonight

January 15, 2013

The 48th Annual Bi-County Basketball Tournaments kick off varsity action tonight at four area sites as Bremen's boys and girls hit the road for Culver Community, John Glenn heads to Oregon-Davis, Argos travels to Triton, and LaVille hosts New Prairie.
Girls games are scheduled for 6:30 p.m. EST with the boys games to follow. All subsequent tournament rounds will be hosted by LaVille, with the girls semifinals and consolations scheduled for Thursday and the boys semis and consols slated for Friday. Championships for both tournaments take place Saturday.
In the girls tournament, ICGSA Class A No. 2-ranked OD will look to back up a 30-point win last week against a revenge-minded Glenn squad as the Lady Cats look for their sixth title in seven years. Another ranked Class A squad enters the field in No. 10 Triton as the Lady Trojans host Sectional 51 rival Argos in the opposite bracket.
Meanwhile in the boys tournament, Triton will look to keep a string of three straight Bi-County titles alive against the Dragons, while in the top bracket, Northern State Conference foes Culver and Bremen both try to keep the momentum alive as the Cavs enter the tilt fresh off a 46-42 victory at the Trojan Trench Friday, and the surging Lions seek their sixth straight win.
This year's Bi-County will also pay homage to the tournament's all-time winningest boys and girls coaches. Recently retired Bremen girls basketball coach Marty Huber, who guided the Lady Lions to seven titles, and current Triton boys assistant coach Gordon Mosson, who won 10 games as the longtime head coach of John Glenn, will be honored between the semifinal games Thursday and Friday at LaVille.
