'Best Chili in Town' to be determined Oct. 14
BREMEN — Don’t get dinner before the Bremen vs. John Glenn football game Oct. 14 — a chili tasting contest sponsored by the Bremen Kiwanis will provide food for the evening. For five dollars, you can taste chili recipes from several area restaurants or chefs and vote on your favorite.
“(Attendees) will get three tickets at the door for $5,” said event organizer Lindsay Wright. “They can put all their tickets in one bucket or pick their three favorites.”
The chili with the most votes will receive a traveling trophy and wall plaque as well as the title, “Best Chili in Town.” The event is a fundraiser, with all proceeds going to Bremen Dollars for Scholars, a local scholarship program.
“It’s fall, people like chili, and we thought it would be a good football, fall type event,” said Wright. “We wanted to get the community involved too.”
The Kiwanis will also be having a bake sale and a lemonade stand. The contest begins at 6 p.m. and runs through halftime. This fundraiser is one of many that the Bremen Kiwanis do throughout the year; other events include the Mom2Mom sale, working at Notre Dame concessions, parking cars at the Marshall County Blueberry Festival, and more. Restaurants participating in the chili contest include: Italian Coffee Bar, Netters, VFW, LOS Gordos, Wooden Peel, Windmill Market, Down Town’r, Edward Christian, and Chef Perry (Community Hospital of Bremen Cafe). Wright said that any additional businesses that wish to enter the chili competition may still do so. For more information, businesses may contact Wright at 574-209-0551 or visit www.bremenkiwanis.org.
