Bates is 2010 memorial friend winner
PLYMOUTH — Kim Bates of Bourbon is the 2010 winner of the Joe Gingerich Memorial Friend of Extension award.
The award, sponsored by Centier Bank was presented by Donna Pontius at the annual Extension meeting held Nov. 16.
Nominated by both the Marshall County 4-H Council and Fair Board, Kim has logged 15 years as a leader in Bourbon Township, served five years on the 4-H Council as vice president, president and past president. While on the 4-H council, Kim served on several committees including the audit and budget committee and still helps with club audits.
When the idea of creating a Sponsorship Committee was broached by the Fairboard, Kim committed to working on that committee, helping to raise funds for fairground improvement. Part of that commitment included collaborating with the sign company to properly create and display signs and banners around the fairgrounds as well as working with a local printer to see that the fair schedules were produced in a timely fashion.
In 2010, Bates also volunteered to chair the Trophy Sponsor Committee, securing trophies for both livestock and non-livestock exhibitors.
During her 10 years as a 4-H’er, she was active in rabbits, clothing and cross stitch.
Bates is Vice President of The First State Bank of Bourbon, a member of the area Bankers Club and a current student of Leadership Marshall County.
She and her husband, Jon, who was also a 10-year 4-H member, are the parents of three 10-year 4-H alumni.
