Arts Camp planned for next week

PLYMOUTH – ArtSparks leaders are in the final throes of preparing for the new Creative Arts Camp next week.

Sponsored by Encore Performing Arts and the Plymouth Parks Department with funding from the Marshall County Community Foundation, the day camp runs Monday through Friday from 9-4 and Saturday from 9-1 with a public performance and cookout at 11:00 on Saturday. The camp will be held in and around the amphitheatre at Centennial Park in Plymouth. It represents an artistic experience not previously available in the Marshall County area.

The goal of the camp, for third through eighth graders, is to develop creativity through the performing arts of dance, drama, and story boarding (creating a story). Using the scribbles of the participants as stimuli, the group will create and perform an original piece incorporating movement, characterization, settings, conflict, and plot. Students will also be exposed to fun theatre games, physical and vocal activities, and park-style recreation.

Led by three professional artist/educators and assisted by staff member Rose Goyette, the camp will encourage team-building and cooperation. Participating students registered so far are from Ada, Michigan, Bourbon, Lakeville, Culver, Bremen, Rochester, and Plymouth.

There are still openings for interested students, but registration needs to be completed promptly to ensure that the student(s) receive a camp T-shirt.
