Argos’ Shepherd inks with Bethel basketball
ARGOS — Latisha Shepherd, a 5-foot-4 guard from Argos High School, has committed to continue her basketball and academic careers for the 2011-2012 season at Bethel College in Mishawaka.
“I chose Bethel because it is where I felt the most at home,” said Shepherd. “It allows me to enjoy the two things I love: playing basketball and being in a Christian atmosphere.”
Shepherd finished her varsity career with 486 points. She averaged 12.3 points, 5.8 rebounds, 3.1 steals and an assist per game during her senior season. She scored a season-high 23 points against Culver Girls Academy on December 14, and recorded a 14-rebound game against Bethany Christian February 7. She also had seven steals in a game against Lakeland on January 8.
“Latisha has been a key figure for the basketball program the past couple of years and we are excited for her that she has the opportunity to play at the next level,” said Argos head girls basketball coach Nick Medich.
Shepherd is also a member of the Argos softball team and played both soccer and volleyball for the Lady Dragons. Her many other extra-curricular activities are band, choir, pep band, musical theatre, youth group, 4-H, ASIS, Sunshine Club, and ABC Club and she has been a cadet teacher and peer mediator.
“Latisha has a great attitude and is a very good athlete,” said Bethel College Women’s Head Basketball Coach Jody Martinez. “Her work ethic will allow her to compete in the guard position as she continues to develop at the next level here at Bethel College. We are blessed to have Latisha join the Lady Pilots family at Bethel College for the 2011 season.”
