Annual 'Bark in the Park' event benefits Humane Society
MARSHALL CO. — Dog owners will have the chance to show off their animals Oct. 7, during the Marshall County Humane Society’s annual “Bark in the Park.”
Bark in the Park is a fundraiser for the shelter. A minimum pledge of $25 is required to enter, but participants can collect additional pledges. There is a prize for the person who collects the most money for the shelter.
There are also several contests that dog owners can enter. New this year is the “Cutest Puppy” award.
“Before, we always had the ‘Smallest Dog’ but people were putting their puppies into that category,” said Nancy Cox, directer of the Marshall County Humane Society. “This year we will still have ‘Smallest Dog’, but it must be a year old. We have adopted maybe a dozen small puppies this year, so we hope to see them all there.”
Cox added that she thinks the contests are what draws people to the event. Other categories include: Best Kisser, Cutest Female Dog, Best Dog Costume, Owner/Dog Look-a-like, Most Handsome Male Dog, Best Vocal Performance, Best Trick, and Largest Dog.
Also new this year is a new t-shirt design. Cox said that usually just the color of the shirt changes from year to year, but this year there is a fresh look for the shirts.
“People can register ahead of time if they want to pick up their shirts,” said Cox. “They just need to bring their pledges to the humane society.”
T-shirts are also available for $15 each at the event, while supplies last.
Prizes for the event have been donated by Dairy Queen. Other sponsors include The Truth about Dogs School for Dogs, Overmyer Water, Midnight Sun Dog Resort, King’s Jewelry, Tim Martin Buick-GMC, Bremen Ford, and Custompromos.com.
“We usually have something for everyone,” commented Cox. “Our biggest thing is, we just want people to show up and support us.”
Bark in the Park is at 1 p.m. October 7 and is located in the pavilion next to the tennis courts at Centennial Park in Plymouth. For more information or with questions, contact the Marshall County Humane Society at 574-936-8300.
