Ancilla softball team receives national recognition

April 1, 2011

DONALDSON — The National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) released its first Division II softball poll of the season and the Lady Chargers of Ancilla College were listed as one of five teams receiving votes after the nation’s top 20.
Ancilla entered Michigan Community College Athletic Association (MCCAA) Western Conference action over the weekend with a 10-4 record before dropping its first two conference games.
“It’s an honor to be mentioned and recognized,” commented Ancilla coach Scott Reese. “The important thing is to make sure we are here at the end of the season too.”
The softball program at Ancilla began in the 1999-2000 school year and the Lady Chargers became full-fledged members of the NJCAA in 2001-2002 after two years of provisional membership. This is the first time in those 10 years that Ancilla has been mentioned in the NJCAA softball poll.
“We’ve come a long way,” mentioned Reese. “These young ladies have worked hard to get here and I look forward to seeing how we progress throughout the season. This is not only a tribute to them, but all of the players that have been here in the past, as well.”
