Alex Starr reaches 1,000-point mark in PUC win

HAMMOND — Plymouth alum Alex Starr became the 15th member of Purdue University Calumet’s 1,000-point club on Saturday afternoon, but her biggest highlight of the day came with 37 seconds left as her three-pointer helped lift the Peregrines to a 77-73 victory over Trinity International.
Starr led all scorers with 23 points, needing less than two minutes to become the fifth player during the Tom Megyesi era to score 1,000 career points with the first of her five three-pointers on the day.
She joins teammate Stephaine Beck as a current member of the 1,000-point club, marking the second-straight season that Purdue Calumet has had multiple 1,000-point scorers on the roster.
Starr ranks fourth on the school’s all-time three-point field goal list, having connected on 150 treys over the course of her three seasons in Hammond. She leads the CCAC in scoring this season, averaging 15.7 points per game this season while knocking down 54 shots from beyond the arc.
PUC improved to 19-9 overall and 8-2 in the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference with the win.
